Kaleidocycle

Emoji Inspired Art

The students in 4th and 5th grades are working on emoji inspired art. Last week they worked on general surprised moods and this week it was opened up to all different types of emoj expressions. 


2nd and 3rd grade puppet

The second and third graders requested to do this assignment after seeing the results from the kindergarteners and first graders. As a break from doing the landscapes they created their own versions from scratch whereas the kindergarteners started with it halfway prefolded and folded the rest. 

3-d cat model

Surprised Mood

One way of making a picture look more exciting is using a different expression. 4th and 5th graders are making portraits with a suprised mood. We looked at examples of exaggerated version of anime characters with shocked and surprised expressions. They also watched a demonstration of how to dissect the basics of the expression and use it for self expression.


Vegetable Garden


Students in 2nd and 3rd grade are working on vegetable garden drawings in their back to nature unit. They are thinking about how carrots grow. Here is an example from a second grader

Cat Finger Puppets

Kindergarten and first grade are continuing their colorful stories unit by making car finger puppets this week. Here are a few examples from a first grade class. They identified important parts to a cat and came up with ideas that were unique to them.

Tangled ribbons-op art

Fourth grade and Fifth grade students are working on a new unit about surprises. This art assignment required the students to apply their prior knowledge about value.

Hand puppets

The students in kindergarten and first grade are making hand puppets this week as a lesson in the colorful stories unit. They did them in one 25 minute session. This is a first grade example.

Cereal Box Donations

Thank you to everyone that has donated cereal boxes and cardboard thus far. We are hoping to get as many as possible so that we can make sculptures and mixed media artwork. So far third grade has brought in the most cereal boxes.

5th grade portrait drawing progress

5th grade has been practicing drawing protraits. This is an example of one of the 5th grade student's improvement from the pretest before all of the instruction and then the test results after practicing for weeks about things like value, and placement of the facial features.

8th grade printmaking lesson

The 8th grade students were introduced to relief printmaking by making their own printing plate in foam and then printing on construction paper with ink.  This example is of Jimmy Neutron. The student used their drawing from the cartooning lessons we did in week 7 to create the printing plate.

The 8th grade students were introduced to landscape painting by first studying how to draw landscapes. They practiced drawing different trees and then looked at examples to create their own personal landscape. This student shows great craftsmanship (neatness).
